Your Puppy’s First Big Milestone: Completing the Foundations for Life Course

Your Puppy’s First Big Milestone: Completing the Foundations for Life Course

Puppies are real bundles of joy, but they can also be rascals! The first few months can therefore be a real challenge, especially if you’ve never owned a dog before. That’s why our Foundations for Life course is more than just basic obedience: it’s the perfect start in life for your furry friend.

At Canine Kids, we offer carefully designed puppy training classes in Surrey for puppies up to 18 weeks of age. Our four-week foundation course sets the tone for everything to come, using positive, science-backed techniques that promote confidence, calmness, and resilience.

What Makes This Course a Milestone?

Puppies go through a critical developmental window before 18 weeks. What they experience during this period, good or bad, can have a lasting impact. Our Foundations for Life course is built to make sure those early experiences are positive, structured, and supportive.

Each course is run by two experienced trainers, with a maximum of five puppies per group. This ensures every pup gets plenty of attention, and you will also receive copious personalised guidance.

It’s the perfect way to begin your puppy’s journey to becoming a well-rounded, confident adult dog.

Teach Useful Skills, Not Party Tricks

In our puppy training classes in Surrey, we focus on behaviours that actually matter in everyday life. Your puppy will learn:

  • To pay attention to you, even around distractions

  • Calm behaviours like sits and downs, which help build impulse control

  • Reliable recall, so they come back when called

  • Loose-lead walking, for peaceful strolls

  • Polite manners, including no jumping up or biting

  • Handling skills for stress-free vet visits and grooming

  • Toy skills like ‘drop’ and ‘leave it’ for safe play

These are not just tricks: they’re skills that will support you and your dog for life.

The Power of Socialisation

Another reason the course is so useful is socialisation. Many behavioural problems later in life stem from poor social experiences early on. At Canine Kids, we do this right.

Our classes provide safe places to socialise, no matter your puppy’s temperament. Nervous puppies build confidence gradually, while confident ones learn to greet others calmly.

For very young or particularly shy puppies, we also offer Puppy Social sessions at our Seale venue, so they can start gently before joining the full course.

Beyond Our Classes: Ongoing Support

Starting puppy training can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time owners. That’s why our support doesn’t stop when the class ends. You’ll have access to telephone and WhatsApp support throughout the course to ask questions, share concerns, or just check in.

Need more tailored help? We also offer one-to-one puppy training sessions for specific issues like separation anxiety, biting, or sleep problems.

Training You Can Trust

Our lead trainer, Karen, brings over 25 years of experience and holds both degree and Masters-level qualifications in animal behaviour. You’re not just signing up for puppy training, you’re investing in expert guidance backed by decades of knowledge.
