Should You Train Your Puppy at Home or Join Puppy Training Classes?

When bringing a new puppy home, it’s tempting to deal with training on your own. After all, there might seem to be endless videos and books available. But is that enough? Or should you opt for professional puppy training classes?

Why DIY Training Appeals to Owners

Training at home can be convenient and obviously it costs little. You’re in charge of the schedule, and you can adapt things to suit your puppy’s routine. With patience, consistency and the right knowledge, some owners do see results. But without expert guidance, problems can quickly escalate.

What Our Puppy Classes Offer That Training at Home Can’t

Our training classes go far beyond teaching ‘sit’ and ‘stay’.  At Canine Kids, our classes teach your dog in a relaxed environment using scientifically proven techniques. Your furry friend can practice their good manners and develop their confidence around other dogs and people. This is a vital part of socialisation that is nearly impossible to replicate at home.

Our experienced instructors, led by Karen Lockey-Kennedy, bring over 20 years of hands-on knowledge and qualifications in puppy behaviour and training. That means you and your puppy benefit from proven reward-based techniques and personalised feedback for any challenges as they arise.

Prevent Problems Before They Start

Our classes are not just about training; they’re about preventing behavioural problems before they develop.

Our small, carefully managed groups allow us to monitor every puppy’s progress and step in early if something goes awry. That’s a huge advantage over solo training, where many issues (like fear around other dogs) can go unnoticed until they become bigger problems.

A More Positive Learning Experience

At Canine Kids, we pride ourselves on creating a calm, positive environment where puppies can thrive. We keep class sizes small, deal directly with behaviour, and focus on clear, kind communication. This helps puppies, and you the owner, build a true rapport with your pet.

While home training has its place, joining a training class offers your pup the best start in life. With professional guidance, your puppy is far more likely to grow into a happy, well-adjusted family member.

If you’re ready to get started, Canine Kids runs classes throughout Surrey, Berkshire, and Hampshire, with options for one-to-one support if you need extra help. Feel free to get in touch: we’d love to welcome you and your pup to the Canine Kids family.
