Best Dog Walks in Surrey to Reinforce Your Training

One of the questions we’re often asked at Canine Kids is, “Where can I practise my training outside classes?” After all, training doesn’t stop when class finishes. In fact, some of the best progress happens out on your everyday walks.
If you ’re looking for great places around Camberley and Farnham to reinforce your dog or puppy’s training, here are some of our favourite local spots, along with tips on what skills you can work on in each location.
Frimley Lodge Park, Camberley
Frimley Lodge Park is ideal for practising loose lead walking and focus work. It has open spaces, footpaths, cyclists, children and other dogs, which makes it perfect for gradually increasing distractions.
We often encourage our clients to start in the quieter areas of the park before moving closer to busier footpaths. Here it’s easy to practise:
Loose lead walking past smaller distractions
Checking in with you when another dog passes
Short recall sessions in quieter corners
Because the park can get busy, it’s also a great place to teach your dog to remain calm when life is happening around them. If your puppy struggles with over-excitement, this is a safe place to build neutrality.
Hawley Woods, near Blackwater
Hawley Woods is brilliant for recall training. With wide trails and open woodland areas, it allows you to practise calling your dog back in a more natural environment.
This is especially useful for adolescent dogs who suddenly seem to “forget” everything they’ve learned. At Canine Kids, we remind owners that recall needs to be practised in stages. Start on a long line, reward heavily, and don’t wait until your dog is fully distracted before calling them.
Hawley Woods also helps you work on:
Emergency recall
Lead-to-off-lead transitions
Calm behaviour around joggers and cyclists
Frensham Great Pond, Farnham
Frensham is beautiful, but it comes with distractions: water, wildlife and plenty of other dogs. It’s not the place to test recall for the first time (it can be easy to get lost on the heath around the pond), but it’s excellent for proofing training once foundations are in place.
Here, you can practise:
Recall away from water
Impulse control around wildlife
Settling on a picnic blanket or bench
We often talk in class about ‘real-world training’, and Frensham is exactly that. If your dog continues to listen here, you’re making real progress!
Farnham Park
With its avenue of trees and large field, Farnham Park is the ideal place for structured training games. We suggest using short sessions during your walk rather than turning it into a full training drill.
You might work on:
Recall between family members
Loose lead walking on inclines
Calm greetings with known dogs
It’s also a good place to practise disengagement from distractions at a distance before gradually reducing space.
At Canine Kids, we believe training should fit into your everyday life. The area around Camberley and Farnham offers fantastic opportunities to reinforce what we teach in class. The key is to build gradually: start in quieter areas, keep sessions short, reward generously, and set your dog up to succeed.
If you’re unsure how to progress safely, that’s exactly what we help with in our puppy and dog training sessions in Surrey. We don’t just teach skills in class; we show you how to apply them in the real-world so your dog listens wherever you are.
If you’d like support with recall, loose lead walking or adolescent challenges, we’d love to help.
